Pictured are a group of keen walkers and budding cooks, taking part in a cook and taste session organised by Liverpool PCT's community food workers. In partnership with Walk for Health, the food worker programme encourages people to get actively involved in preparing the ingredients before going off on a healthy walk around calderstones Park. The food workers then cook the food whilst the walkers are led around Calderstones Park. After burning off some calories, the group return to taste the food, healthy eating advice and receive the recipes. Many of the participants then try the recipes at home.
On the menu were Fattoush (Lebanese salad) and Sweet potato and chick pea patties. Recipes can be found below:
Although the weather wasn't the best, with heavy downpours, the turnout was good with 20 participants. Liverpool hosts a weekly programme of walks at a variety of parks and venues. For details please log onto www.liverpoolactivecity.net
The food workers work at a variety of community groups and schools to encourage people to eat healthily and to understand how recipes can be adapted to make them healthier. Sessions also include cooking on a budget, cooking for one and healthy eating for familes and older people.
